And so it begins....

For thousands of years, mankind marked the passing of the seasons from an agrarian viewpoint.  Spring, Summer, Winter or Fall.. they were all heralded as they came by the changes in the crops, or the land, as we worked the soil or the herds to provide for our families.  Man lived in tune with God's creation as time marched inexorably onwards.

But now?  The world has changed, and the majority of us on this little blue ball no longer have that intimate connection with the land that serves as a yearly clock.  Fewer of us work the land, or even have relatives or acquaintances who do.  As for me, my family is a couple of generations removed from the cotton farms in West Texas, although I do have a cousin who runs a dairy farm on the New Mexico border.... and there is that story about me and a herd of heifers, but that's for another time and forum.

So... by what measure do we mark the changing of the seasons?  Calendars?  Our cell phones?   Pffft.. those are sterile and literal.   Just as our forefathers could tell in their bones when a new season approached, so can we.... through our children's sports, of course!

I know the end of winter (such as it is around here) lurks around the corner as I cut the check to Little League or the Rugby association.... and I know fall cometh right soon as we rush back from the north to get our son to the HSAA soccer tryouts!

And what a great start to the season it was... there were lots of boys working hard to earn a spot, and some great new additions to both teams.  Most importantly, the final tryout ended the way all HSAA games and practices end, in respect and praise to the one who made us:

The right way to start a seaon

One of my favorite memories of the 2014-2015 season was seeing the boys pray after every game.  What an example these young ambassadors are setting as they visit the playing fields of our opponents!

How the Sonic manager likes to end the business day.
After the tryouts, we invaded the nearby Sonic, and thrilled the manager (lots of sales) and made life hard on the waitstaff ("Where is 'X'?  I've got an order for 'X'?  Anyone?!  Bueller?  Bueller?  Bueller?)

HSAA is such a great family.  We really are.

After a great deal of socializing and merry-making, the 2015 tryouts were officially over and the work of preparing for the season was underway.  It's going to be another great season.
