Varsity falls 2-1 to Prestonwood in POPWC semifinals

The HSAA Varsity Angels bowed out of the Prince of Peace tournament Saturday afternoon, in a hard-fought 2-1 semifinal loss to Prestonwood Christian Academy.

Despite playing with several missing starters due to club commitments, HSAA made a go of it, keeping the match close throughout.

PCA opened the scoring in the 11th minute, when the Angels were unable to clear a ball directly in front of the goal, giving the Lion's striker a point blank shot on GK Matthew Welch.

However, Nolan Gerwing evened the tally just four minutes later, on a lovely through-pass assist from Player X [the name has been redacted for National Security Reasons- he knows who he is!].

The Angels almost took the lead late in the first half, when a corner kick led to a fantastic header that only failed to go in due to a Sportscenter-worthy stop by the Lion's GK.

In the second half, the teams battled back and forth in a tense 1-1 tie, but eventually the PCA offense began to dominate.  In the 62nd minute, PCA was awarded a free kick, and scored what would prove to be the winning goal.
