For the third time this year, the Varsity Angels played a match against Prestonwood Christian Academy, and despite a furious push in the waning minutes, were unable to garner a different result as the Lions prevailed again 3-2.

PCA opened the scoring at the 7 minute mark, when GK Matthew Welch made a diving save to deflect a hard shot, but the Angels were unable to clear the deflection–PCA netted the ball just under another save attempt by Matthew.

Fifteen minutes later, Nolan Gerwing evened the score on a deflection by the PCA keeper, from a shot by Stephen Hoegenauer.  The teams went to halftime with the score all level at 1-1.

Prestonwood struck again 7 minutes into the second half, when a rare indirect kick violation was called in the Angels' penalty area.  PCA did a tap and shot that lasered into the back post to make it 2-1.

The Lions added another in 55th minute, when one of their strikers beat the back line and had a close 1-1 with the keeper.

Stephen Hoegenauer scored late in the second half, taking the shot from right in front of the goal after a beautiful cross from Ollie Wells.

With time relentlessly expiring and desperate to earn at least a draw, the Angels put on a furious push in the final minutes of the match, but as had happened most of the match, the Lions proved to be just a little better in the midfield and in the air, and the whistle blew with the Angels down 3-2.

GK Matthew Welch ended up with 6 saves and the defensive line had countless precision clears against the sharp Lions offense.

Special shout-out for play that might not show up in the stat sheet:
Angus Hendon had an incredible sequence of play late in the second half:  he chased down a errant pass and managed to keep it inbounds, then made some delightful dribbling plays and footwork deep in the right wing and along the end line before placing a nice cross into the box that no one was able to convert.  He did all this despite being mugged by 1-3 defensive players.
