HSAA Varsity wins Nationals Tournament Championship

The HSAA Varsity side took on Christ Prep (Winner of the B Pool) for the 2nd and last match of the Championship round-robin, needing only a draw or a win to take the Championship on points.  The match remained a taut, close affair during the first half, and after Christ Prep converted a penalty kick, the score stood at 3-2 HSAA.

The Angels scored again before the half to extend to 4-2, and then began to pull away in the second half.  Christ Prep lost a player to a serious injury when he collided with the CP keeper, and their side never seemed the same after that incident.  HSAA added some more scores to make the final 8-2, and the Varsity boys took the Nationals All-Around Championship for the third year in a row.

Mark Trompeter led the scoring with a hat trick while Brock Jolley added a pair of goals;  Nathan Byrd, Jhalen Sheffield, and one other player added one goal each.

Midfield and defensive play for the team was stellar as usual, as Christ Prep was stifled from the latter part of the first half until the end.

After the match, HSAA and Christ Prep attended the awards presentation, where the gutsy CP team was awarded the Silver Ball, and your own HSAA Varsity Angels were awarded the Golden Ball.

All-Tournament Medals were awarded to Brock Jolley, Jhalen Sheffield, Luke Truetkin, and Anthony Griffin.

The Tournament MVP was Mark Trompeter.

Sportsmanship shout-out to our noble opponents:
#10 for Christ Prep, Michael Gimotti, who dislocated his shoulder (we think, based on info from their fans... he has dislocated it before) in the second half on a fast run back to defend a goal, after he collided with their keeper.  He left the game and field, not to return, and our prayers go to him for a speedy recovery.
