JV Boys take down FW Christian 6-1

Match time:  12/12/2014  6:00pm
Opponent:  Fort Worth Christian
Location:  FWC field, Fort Worth, TX
Conditions: Clear, 60ish

HSAA JV:  6
FWC:  1

Despite taking the pitch with only 10 players, the JV side flexed their offensive muscles in a match against Fort Worth Christian, notching 27 shots and 6 goals in the onslaught on FWC's defense.

The first half was tightly contested:  the Angels opened the scoring with an unassisted goal by Koby Estes.  FWC responded with their lone goal of the night, when one of their forwards stole the ball just outside the box and had a solo breakaway on the HSAA keeper.  Matthew Welch made the initial kicksave, but the defense was unable to clear the rebound.

Just before the half, Sean Fletcher scored unassisted to send the team to the halftime grass up 2-1.

In the second half, HSAA kicked it up a gear, lead by Koby Estes once again, who headed in the ball off a Peter Byrd corner kick.  Journey Saucedo then added a goal, again on an assist by Peter Byrd, who had a great game at left forward, displaying some crisp passing and lots of runs into the left corner to setup crosses and scoring opportunities.

The final two goals came on penalty kicks:  one for a foul suffered by John Harris, who netted the PK; and another for an unfortunate handball when an FWC defender caught the ball by instinct-- Joshua Garza took the kick for the final score.

Keeper Matthew Welch made a nice save on hard shot to the upper 90 to preserve the 1-goal sheet.
