JV team falls to Grandview Christian 4-1

The HSAA JV men's team fell 4-1 in their opening match of the 2015 Nationals, to Grandview Christian.   Grandview held a considerable size advantage at almost every position, and they maintained pressure throughout the match, with more time of possession and time spent in our half of the pitch.

Goalkeeper Matthew Welch played a great game, booking 14 saves and giving up 4 goals; many of the plays were on one-on-one breakaways due to the speed and skill of the Grandview front line.

Aaron Thorne had a good day on defense as well, and Peter Byrd had many plays in the midfield.  Sam Lee often drew double-teams due to his speed and soft touch with the ball.

Caleb McDaniel booked the lone goal for the Angels.

The JV men played with heart and hustle; the match was effectively much closer than the final score indicated.


Sportsmanship shout-out to our noble opponents:
Their strongest forward and sniper was an incredibly good player, and yet exhibited great sportsmanship several times to our keeper, congratulating him on some of the saves that stole yet another goal from him.
