The JV Angels lost their Nationals opener 3-1 to Cair Paravel Latin School, in a match that was much closer than the final score indicated.
CP opened the scoring about halfway through the first half, but HSAA responded immediately with a strike by Micah Saenz from over 40 yards away.
Unfortunately, the Narnians (see what I did there) came right back within the next minute and scored to make it 2-1.
In the second half, the Angels played with a great deal more intensity in the offensive half, and only several very nice saves by the CP keeper prevented HSAA from taking the lead. While the Narnian keeper was stonewalling our offense, CP managed to get one more goal, for the final score of 3-1.
Special shout-out for play that might not show up in the stat sheet:
Micah Saenz's goal came from at least 40 yards away. Don't see those very often.
Cair Paravel goalkeeper, for making several very nice saves that changed the game for the opponents.
