The HSAA varsity men came away with a 1-0 victory over Daniel Academy to advance to the championship match in the 6A bracket. The match was very tightly contested, with good aggressive play on both sides.
Stephen Hoegenauer scored his 5th goal in 2 games, and what would prove to be the only goal in this match, early in the first half, setting the table for a tension-filled match as Daniel worked desperately to even the score.
In the second half, HSAA was granted a PK, and their keeper made a marvelous save to deny Stephen another goal and keep the game close.
The HSAA defense had their best game yet, being called into action by the continuous offensive pressure applied by Daniel. The back line had 12 defensive saves and GK Zach Taylor made 10 saves to preserve the clean sheet.
Special shout-out for play that might not show up in the stat sheet:
-The entire Angels back line and keeper, for bending and not breaking in a very, very close game.
-Daniel Academy goalkeeper, for making several very nice saves (including one on a PK) that kept the game close for the opponents.
