Varsity defeats Lifeprep 8-0 at Nationals

Match time:  Thursday 10/19/17  6:00 PM
Opponent:  LifePrep
Location:  Lake Country Soccer Complex Field 14, Springfield MO
Conditions: Clear and cool, difficult light at sundown

HSAA:  8
Lifeprep:  0

The Varsity side finished off the first day of Nationals with a resounding 8-0 defeat of Lifeprep, a team that has given them definite trouble in the past.  The match stood scoreless for the first 10 minutes of the first half, with closely contested possessions and aggressive play from the Lifeprep side.  Then HSAA was granted a PK for a two-handed push in the Lifeprep box, and Stephen Hoegenauer netted the shot.  A few minutes later, he dribbled through a crowd to score his second goal.

Just prior to the end of the half, Angus Hendon sent the ball on frame from a distance, and the Lifeprep keeper made a mistake on the slowly rolling ground ball and allowed it go between his legs to make the score 3-0 at the half.

In the second half, it was obvious that the life had gone out of Lifeprep, as HSAA took complete control in their offensive half.  Trevor Mrochek dribbled through a huge crowd for goal number 4, and Sam Lee made a great shot from an extreme right side angle, putting it in the upper net above the keeper to make the score 5-0.

Stephen Hoegenauer scored the 6th goal to earn a hat trick for the night.  Ollie Wells then got in on the fun, sniping a shot (without a scope this time) from 20 yards away that went through a huge crowd and right past the screened keeper.

The 8th and final goal came from Stephen Hoegenauer (yet again!) on a try on the right side, parallel to the goal face, that ricocheted off the keeper's leg and into the goal.

The Varsity men played a great game, maintaining pressure through both halves, and setting themselves up for day two with a great match, both in points and team morale.

Special shout-out for play that might not show up in the stat sheet:
The entire team for maintaining a professional and upright demeanor as the other team grew increasing frustrated at the way the game was going.

Ok! Neither of them were seriously hurt in that collision.  Ok, who's
supposed to score next?

Dude...can you see anything?  Nah, me neither.

I'm so glad that sun is going down.  This GK stuff
is hard enough as it is.
